Connecting on a personal level is an important part of sharing ideas. On this page we'll present some details about our organization and the people behind it.

About Our Organization

Calla and Gerald Wright are the Founders and President of The Coalition of Concerned Citizens for African American Children, Inc.  This is a community-based organization dedicated to teaching parents about the policies, procedures, and laws that govern our children who attend the Wake County Public School System.  Calla and husband, Gerald Wright, founded the organization in 2004 because of educational issues/concerns they were experiencing with their sons, Robert and Moses.   As parents they felt the need to create a parent-based organization to inform parents on how to become effective advocates for their children while also teaching them about WCPSS policies and procedures.

The CCCAAC has been in existence for two years with over 150 parent supporters, and also partnered with the WCPSS Board of Education, Wake County PTA Council, Wake Ed Partnership, and countless other community groups and organizations.

The Coalition of Concerned Citizens for African American Children believes that parents and communities are the voices of our children and as responsible adults we shape the foundation for our children’s future.   As a parent-based organization, we are working to ensure that all children receive equitable educational opportunities that will lead them to become productive citizens.

Purpose
The purpose of CCCAAC is to increase parent's knowledge of policies, practices, and procedures of the local school system.  Our objective is to assist parents in helping their children receive optimal educational opportunities.
